Now, having a job is not necessarily all that bad. In fact, before we ventured out to do things our own, we will still need to work to survive or fund our new budding businesses.
A JOB helps to prepare ourselves on how to adapt and network
with others, to set expectations whenever we handle a difficult task and pick
up soft skills that are essential, e.g.: How to operate the Microsoft suites,
how to write a good letter, how to come up with a good presentation slides, how
to close an important sale etc.
However, not everyone is cut out to work for others. There
are people who are driven and passionate to do things on their own and there
are people who are content to earn a month to month paycheck.
Working for others means you will need to put in hours (sometimes extra) and effort to an agreed time and number of days for as long as you are employed. You’ll need to ensure that you are always on time at work and abide to the rules set by the company. What employers want from you is your undivided loyalty and commitment.
You need to deliver your skills, know how’s and eventually
get evaluated during appraisals on whether you have met your KPI (Key Performance Indicator) or otherwise.
The employers’ are not interested with your hidden strengths and passion. All
they want is you to get the job done to their satisfaction. You are paid
accordingly and it’s up to their discretion to offer you’re a decent pay rise
or a promotion. Worst still, if you cannot perform, they can always choose
another person to do it.
In the Corporate world, NOBODY is indispensable.
At work, you’ll need to cope with political colleagues (who
are as hungry as you are!), bad bosses and bad Management’s decisions.
Basically, you are at your company’s MERCY! If you know how
to play the corporate game, chances are you will survive the hurdle. Others
would just succumb and let fate decides.
But for some others, they will take a step back, reassess
their life, priorities and take matters into their hands to change their fate.
Question is, WHICH ONE WOULD YOU RATHER BE?
